Checking Shipment Size & Weight

How to correctly measure a parcel

Dimensional weight is used by courier companies to determine shipping costs based on the space a package occupies, rather than its actual physical weight.

1. Calculate the Volumetric Weight (Dimensional Weight):
* First, measure the dimensions of your package in centimeters (cm):
  • Length (L)
  • Width (W)
  • Height (H)
* Next, multiply these three dimensions together: (L \times W \times H).
* Finally, divide the result by 5000 which will give you the results in Kilograms.

2. FITS Express will charge you based on the higher of either the actual weight or the volumetric weight.

FAQ

Parcels can be up to 419 centimeters in length and girth combined & have a maximum length of 274cms.

To accurately determine length and girth, use the formula: Length + 2x Width + 2x Height.

Remember, the longest side of your parcel will be your length.

Measure irregularly shaped parcels as if they were in a rectangular box. Measure the length, width and height of the theoretical parcel from its extreme points to determine the parcel’s dimensions.

The actual weight is the parcel weight rounded up to the next half kg.

Use a scale to determine the weight of the parcel. Round any fraction of a kg to the next half kg.

Compare the parcel’s actual weight to its dimensional weight. The greater of the two is the billable weight and should be used to calculate the rate. For multiple-parcel shipments, total the billable weight of all parcels in the shipment.
